'An important step forward in Birmingham's transformation as an international city', says Project Lead Colin Murphy of Lendlease about Birmingham Smithfield, which has now been resubmitted for planning. The new market halls designed in collaboration with Eastside Projects is the centrepiece of a £1.9 billion mixed use quarter commissioned by Birmingham Council. Conceived as a city in miniature, the market building rehouses the food market which has existed at Smithfield for over 800 years and includes a dining hall, restaurant, and event spaces.
