Hounslow High Street
In 2012 David Kohn Architects was comissioned by the London Borough of Hounslow to design and implement a cutting edge public realm scheme that will set in motion the regeneration of Hounslow High Street. The project includes strategic designs for the streets and public spaces in the town centre, and implementing improvement works to the pedestrianised half of the High street.
The aim is to create a place to be proud of, providing a focus for community uses, socialising and events through the creation of new public spaces. Design strategies include an events-based street with a sequence of ‘rooms’ hosting different uses, de-cluttering, improving legibility, clustering furniture, installing lighting and planting specific to each space.
The project is partially funded by the Greater London Authority and is the largest Outer London Fund Scheme in the capital.
